One time while living in Southern California I got lost while trying to find the trailhead to hike a trail that lead to a waterfall. Eventually I stopped and asked for directions, only to find out that the waterfall didn't actually have any water falling due to the drought and the time of year.
When I looked around after hearing the news about the water-less falls I saw this fantastic tree. The tree surprised me. Even though it was found in the Cleveland National Forest it was quite a bit bigger than most of the trees I had seen in the area. Later, while exploring, I found more large trees in Cleveland National Forest than I imagined were there. It was nice to find them as before it seemed like shrubs and cacti were all that grew wild in the region.
