One Christmas while I lived in Okinawa my whole immediate family was able to fly out and visit. There was an entire list of places to see and things to show them while they were there. On one of the very first days that they were all there we decided to show them things that required less travel time, as everyone was pretty jet-lagged.
We ended up at Nakagusuku Castle while they were having a festival for "the little yellow flowers". It was a fun small festival with some traditional dances, and the people in charge of the festival seemed particularly pleased that we showed up and were fascinated by it all!
Back to the tree... my mom actually pointed it out to me. She suggested that I should photograph the really cool growth pattern you can see in the grain of the wood. The pattern makes me think of perfect "finger curls" from the 20's!
So, now you know, this tree can be found in Nakagusuku Castle in Okinawa. However, there are sure to be amazingly beautiful details found in all sorts of trees, if you look closely enough!
